What do people like (and dislike) about Taipei?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Taipei, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads generally like the low cost of living in Taipei, as it allows them to maintain a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank. They also appreciate the efficient and affordable public transportation system, which makes it easy to navigate the city and explore its various neighborhoods. The food scene in Taipei is another major draw, with a wide variety of delicious and affordable local dishes available at street food markets and restaurants. The city is also known for its friendly and welcoming locals, making it easy for expats and digital nomads to feel at home and make new friends. Additionally, the availability of high-speed internet and numerous coworking spaces make it an ideal location for remote work. On the other hand, expats and digital nomads may dislike the language barrier, as not everyone in Taipei speaks English, and it can be challenging to communicate with locals and navigate daily life without some knowledge of Mandarin. The air quality in Taipei can also be a concern, as pollution levels can be high at times, potentially affecting the health and comfort of residents. The humid subtropical climate may not be to everyone's liking, with hot and humid summers and occasional typhoons. Finally, some expats and digital nomads may find the job market in Taipei to be competitive, particularly for those seeking employment outside of the tech and teaching industries," explained one expat living in Taipei, Taiwan.
