What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?
When we asked expats and global nomads in Botswana about their experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system, they replied...
"The pandemic has had a significant impact on Botswana's healthcare system. The government has implemented a number of measures to protect the public, including the closure of non-essential services, the suspension of elective surgeries, and the introduction of telemedicine services. Despite these measures, the healthcare system has been overwhelmed by the influx of patients seeking treatment for COVID-19. Many healthcare workers have been overworked and underpaid, leading to a shortage of medical personnel. Additionally, the lack of access to testing and treatment has been a major challenge, as the country has limited resources and a lack of medical supplies. Despite these challenges, the government has taken steps to ensure that the healthcare system is able to cope with the pandemic, including the introduction of a national health insurance scheme and the provision of additional funding for healthcare facilities," said a member in Botswana.
