Expat Advice: Living in Zurich, Switzerland

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Zurich

How long have you lived there?

3 months

What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?

There are many international clubs, so my advice is to get involved in as many international clubs here as possible.

In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.

As long as you are rich, you will be fine. As a black woman from the US, it's a shame to see so many badly behaved blacks AGAIN in a country. I work in IT, and I wish I could meet more professional people. Once you behave badly in the Swiss country, you are making a reputation for others who look like you. That is not necessarily racism as it is the 21st century mentality that people are responsible for their behavior.

What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

I work in IT, and I think that field is picking up again.

If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.

LEARN GERMAN,and make sure that you can get a tax specialist who speaks your langauge if you mother tongue is not German, French or Italian.

I think it's interesting that if a Caucasian or European person behaves badly and even commits murder, the rest do not say "a white person did this or that." When a Black person does something criminal or distasteful, it becomes an indictment of the entire group. Have all Brits been judged by Jack the Ripper? Or by Mick Jagger? We are not all the same person, and not all the same, except that we are all human beings. There are the good, the bad, the ugly, the virtuous, and the admirable in every make of human being. And the models within the make are different, with very unique features. All cannot be judged by one.
