1. Understanding the Driving Culture

3. Parking in Stockholm
Finding parking in Stockholm can be challenging, especially in the city center. Most parking spaces are metered and can be quite expensive. It's advisable to use public transportation or park in the outskirts and use the efficient public transportation system to get into the city.
4. Driving with an International License
Foreigners can drive in Sweden using an international driving license or a license from any EU country. If your license is from a non-EU country, you can use it for one year from the date you register in Sweden. After that, you will need to obtain a Swedish driving license.
5. Obtaining a Swedish Driving License
To get a Swedish driving license, you will need to pass both a theory test and a practical driving test. The tests are available in several languages, including English. It's advisable to take a few driving lessons to familiarize yourself with the Swedish driving rules and conditions. You can book your tests through the Swedish Transport Agency.
6. Winter Driving
Sweden experiences harsh winters, and it's mandatory to use winter tires from December to March. If you're not used to driving in snowy and icy conditions, it's advisable to take a winter driving course. Always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and drive slowly during winter.
7. Speed Limits
Speed limits in Sweden are strictly enforced, and fines for speeding can be hefty. The general speed limits are 50 km/h in urban areas, 70-90 km/h on open roads, and 110-120 km/h on motorways. Always pay attention to the road signs as speed limits can change frequently.
8. Alcohol and Driving
Sweden has very strict drink-driving laws, with a legal limit of 0.02% blood alcohol concentration. Penalties for drink-driving can include heavy fines, a driving ban, and even imprisonment. It's best to avoid drinking alcohol if you plan to drive.
