Hello from Texas my wife and I moving to Belize with two dogs . We’re looking to buy in ambergris caye. We have been researching the area for about 2month . One of my questions is can she bring her Jeep? Does anybody know of a good moving company we will be bringing a shipping container.. any feed back on immigration process would be helpful. We’re looking to move in next 8 month. Thank you

You may not get a permit to have it on the island.

Good to hear! I would be interested to find out what speeds one might expect from the 4G service in San Pedro.

Hi,
Contrary to what CLK32 says (who doesnt know anything about Belize other than what she reads online and has never lived in Belize) there are private vehicles in Ambergris.
However, they wont be issueing vehicle permits for new comers due to congestion on the island.
So no, no Jeep realistically possible on Ambergris, but you can get a golf cart to get around on...

Thank you after all this time you have At Last told the forum of your gender. I always thought you were female as obviously Con did. I appologize for not guessing correctly, but you never corrected me when I mentioned it before, You have no stored profile on the forum, so guessing your gender was aways 50/50 chance. so not really very" suspect" was it?
Pity you are not 'smart' enough to stop commenting on things you have no first hand knowledge.

TO SARNO
I to date your research has been on line based the 2 month visit is a great Idea. I would suggest spending that time exploring the whole of Belize. If the cayes ae your choice simply for beach life then maybe explore the Placencia peninsula and Hopkins regions as well. Why CLK Informs would be newcomers about things that are found on the internet only is anathama to all. If you were to decide on a mainland area that jeep would be a great asset. But once private vehicles were being allowed on the cayes it quickly became very congested and there fore no new permits are being issued. Getting a permit for an additional Golf cart to the island could to be difficult also, You would probably have to purchase once you moved. Ignoring the doom and gloom merchants and internet experts the only way to decide if Belize is for you is on the ground as another poster says with your "sandals in the sand". for a decent amount of time, renting first is always a good idea as you have the leisure to pick exactly what suits you and your lifestyle before such major lifetime commitment. Remember if/when buying there is rarely "another interested buyer, so you must sign asap" Never allow yourself to be rushed into an expensive mistake. Some people do decide after a couple of years ( or 15) that for all sorts of personal reasons they want to move elsewhere. This should not be seen as a failure of the expat or of Belize, You seem to have the right attitude to give a try. I admit am Biased I love Belize. I would never dare say it is perfect. it has Many flaws and can be a frustration at times but then that is true anywhere, just different flaws and frustrations.

@triffic You havent travelled much if u think Belize is #1 @terrific its might be helpful to newbies if u specify the “flaws and frustrations” I have done so many times. eg poor infrastructure , health care deficiencies, poor policing and fire, high costs relative to the region esp fuel and utilities, high property and violent crime and so much more. Mexico has better beaches, food and beer, Costa Rica better health care, Ecuador better climate and Panama a better retiree program. But for Belize there is one plus ( only one) which is the ability to use the English language. Thats about it.

@triffic I am no longer there. My stay was 2005-2012. Excluding brief visits since then. I lack the thick skinned rugged individualist libertarian attitude required for permanent adjustment there. I did live with concrete walls around the place but I erred in adopting a Belizean potlicker for protection ;)

Sarno,
No cars here in San Pedro - GOLF CARTS. Come visit first, stay awhile and then if you are going to move, go back to the US and sell your car there.
