Looking to relocate next summer. As topic implies, I am a farmer and would like to continue that style of living. I want to be self sufficient and healthy; I want to learn the culture by doing; and finally be at peace.
Any thoughts on the west side of Belize, please share when possible.

Just a thought, if your crops are washed out by a hurricane, its your total loss, no gov. comp. Be interesting to see what happens next few days.

We bought in the Cayo area. Looked down south also towards Punta Gorda. Drove through the Orange Walk area, looked great on the Western half.

If your talking commercial farming, I would recommend you take a pass.

If your talking life style, everywhere is good. Like anywhere different soil types, you would just need to have the fun learning to work with them.

Where we are at is a rock outcropping on part, deep black soil on most, then sandy soil towards the creek/river. Definitely try to get a spot with running water, for the fun of it. That is the beautiful thing about Belize, you can still buy land with active streams or rivers relatively inexpensively.

Some of the ground is very much gumbo, even though it might look black. I would stay away from it.

The land from Belize City to Belmopan is mainly marsh or Pine woods red dirt. Not very welcoming to traditional farming or for fun.

Take your time and visit the country. You will be able to find a good farming lifestyle most everywhere, so use land price or other conveniences to make your decision.

Its a fun journey. Enjoy yourself.

If you live near the sea, enjoy the food.
