Trying to find my friend in Belize

I have a very good friend that moved to Belize and I lost all contact with him. He is not on social media and I am afraid he lost my contact info. I am wondering if there is anyone that has a suggestion on locating him? I don't know the city he is in, I believe he is renting a house not by the water. Any help? I even looked at hiring a private investigator but don't know where to start. There has to be some type of registry there with people living in the country. I really just want to make sure he is ok.
