Hello. Question -

We are driving into Belize from Mexico soon and I would like to know if it is absolutely necessary to have the vehicle title in our name. We have permission from our lender to bring the car into the country. I have read that the title in our name is required but have also read it wasn't necessary.

You dont need the title but you will need the authorization letter from the rental company and you will need to purchase 3rd party insurance.

I got held up at the border before for not having the authorization letter on proper letterhead stationary. They threatened me with making my return to Mexico but finally settled for scolding me. The letter looked ok to me buy they were suspicious they said. FEW lenders will allow their cars to be taken out of country for all the obvious reasons. Don't be surprised if you get some resistance..............if they do anything at all! Crossing is always a crap shoot for me anyway.
