Beijing Apts

I am trying to get an idea of how much it costs to rent an apartment in Beijing. China World Trade Centre has rent for 1 bdrm at $2200/mo and at Kerry Ctr its $3000/mo.

Since my office will be in the Kerry Ctr, was wondering if its easier to live in the business district or should I venture elsewhere to get a better social perspective.

What other areas should I consider given I do not speak Mandarin and I will probably be working lots of hours? I do want to experience the culture of China and am afraid I might miss out on it if I am sheltered away in an expat building. However, I do not want to add to a long work day with a long commute.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
