In 2012 I will turn 65 at the end of the year, therefore, at the beginning of 2013 I will be retiring. For the past 5 years, I have been considering at places to live and recently my son (who lives with his wife and 2 daughters in Lima, Peru) emailed me with information about Medellin, Colombia. It seems perfect for me. I have researched it thoroughly. But, Internet information is limited, I feel this information can be at times biased Therefore, I wish to meet expats and perhaps persons native to this beautiful place to answer questions, provide guidance, share experiences and insight.
I wish to rent a home, in the areas of the city (zona 2?) that are safest and I have heard that one should have a Colombian to help with price negotiation as there is a strong tendency to way overcharge gringos. I don't drive, so it will have to be close to a market or store, bank, doctor, etc. I need to learn about medical costs, insurances, and all that sort of thing. I am healthy right now, but have heart problems, HBP, PRE-diabetes, all of which I take medication for.I must watch my diet, and religiously take my medicine and lucky me will probably have another 30 years to enjoy Medellin.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

PS. I speak some Spanish, so if you care to feel free to write me in Spanish. My understanding of written language is far better than my spoken Spanish.
