Extending tourist visa for 90 days.

I would like to know any details about crossing the border from Colombia to Ecuador on a bus in order to return to Colombia with a extended tourist visa for 90 days. Has any one done this without difficulty. What city? where did you stay and for how long? how many times can this be done? Any other info would be appreciated, thanks.
