Internet service using a satellite dish

I'm in a rural area. There is no fibre op or basic cable except for TV. The only internet is by a modem (a large one on the roof). However, the best download speed is about 1.80 mbps. So, it's very marginal for streaming live stuff. And they charge the same as would be expected for high speed internet in the USA.
Is anyone using a satellite internet service with a parabolic dish? I figure this is the only possible option for faster speeds. This should be available regardless of geographic location but I keep hearing no such a service is not available in your area. I wonder if it is actually no we cannot give you service because because we are not willing to pay for someone to travel to do the install.
