I am reposting this as I posted this in response to another post:
I love being here, don't get me wrong, but another thing that's hard to get used to is going to "upscale" restaurants for a romantic dinner and getting the opposite.
Dark, soft music, friendly service is what I mean. A place where the servers are actually happy to serve you instead of looking miserable and barely opening their mouths to take the order that they bring whenever they feel like or the bring the damn food before your drinks!!!!
I have been to some of the spots where it should be, by all means, what I am looking for....Tony Roma's for example - I get there, I am dressed up with my lady, they lead us to our table clear in the back, the flood lights, for lack of a better term, were on full blast. No music. None!!! It felt like a union hall or pipe fitters banquet hall.
At Roma's, where the view is supposed to be spectacular, was non existent because the interior lights were so bright that you couldn't see outside. We asked to dim the lights some but the server walked away, came back 15 minutes later and said that the lights were fine.
WE LEFT!!!
FOR AN $800.000 BOTTLE OF DOM, the place should be the part.
Anyway, all of the restaurants I have been to with hopes of dark and cozy, candles, soft music, seem to NOT exist here.
Went to SEVERAL Italian restaurants, same thing....flood lights, no music, sounds of pots and pans banging around in the kitchen.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get my American ambiance fix?
