Building a better forum?

I like this forum. The people are polite, the questions and comments are good, and a lot of good advice gets posted from experienced persons.
But, like some of the rest of you, I´ve noticed that this forum is awkward and clumsy and annoying to use.
What would make it better?
1. If there was an indicator that I have unread posts in a given thread, instead of having to remember the number of the last post I read in each thread.
2. If there was an indication on the home page that I had a PM waiting, instead of having to discover it by accident.
Originally I think I was set up to receive an email notifying me of a pending PM, but that seems to have changed.
3. If there was a blog section so I can post my trip reports.
4. If I could post photos, you tube videos and other files.
5. If when I posted links in a message text the link would appear highlighted for click on to open in a new window, instead of having to copy and paste to my browser.
I have seen mention on here before that some of you are beta testers and moderators. Anything you can do to incorporate some of these suggestions?
Any other suggestions to make it a more user friendly forum?
