I too want to move to jamaica, been a few times to montago bay and would love to buy a house there. The cost of living is cheap and the way of life very relaxing, the jamaican dollar is very weak comparing to the english pound and the us dollar. Houses around montago bay area can be expensive but the people are nice. I will be taking another trip to JA beginning of next month to find out more information on living there.
My email address if u would like more

Jamaica is a great destination for the care-free. Saying that ... I hope you're ready for an adventure! I have been living it for a year..and I will tell you first there are alot of adjustments to go through. The slower overall pace is VERY important not to overlook. Beyond that...people are great, so many things to do. The cost of living is considerably lower than the states and the U.K. as well as Canada. Food expenses are cheap - a single person can easily live on JA$1,500 in groceries a week if you can cook well- you'll find imported items like frozen foods and certained canned items can be pretty expensive, medical expenses...hmm being that many Jamaicans do not have medical insurance I would say overall bills are lower. Your average visit to the family clinic will be sometimes in the ballpark of $1,000 to $3,000 Jamaican dollars...very agreeable. I would first and foremost be prepared with a large amount of cash as well as an emergency fund. Apartments, I've witnessed, can go from JA$10,000 for unfurnished (but then again usually quite liveable and decent) to something like an in-resort apartment full furnished which can go for about an average in the mid twenty thousands a month. If possible to carry a lump sum, I'd go for the unfurnished route. Household items seem not to be too stressing on the pocket and you'll find some landlords get sticky about furniture conditions and sometimes aren't willing to replace things that need replacing. Good places to reside? It depends upon your likes. If you're looking for relaxatoin...I'd center around the north coast Montego Bay, Ocho Rios... - if you're into the "City thing" then Kingston would be your best bet- but be forewarned about the crime there. Choosing your neighborhood is very important
