I live in Anchorage Alaska and want to work in another country and expeireince the culture. My grandfather is black Jamaican and lives in Costa Rica. I've always felt a connection to Jamaica. Part of the reason I became a massage therapist was the flexibility to move around.

I want to work part time as a massage therapist in a resort. I'll also need a furnished apartment as well as a school and Nanny for my 5 year old.

Whet Where do I start? I have done multiple searches and have come up short ??.
Who can help me?

Hello Slg1981,

I see that you are overwhelmed so I'll start by giving you a little insight on moving to Jamaica. So where to start...

Work
1. they are always looking for massage therapists in the resort areas. Email one of the hotels in the area of Jamaica you plan on moving to.

Live
2 There are furnished apartments available. However, in some parts of the island it is rare. Check the local newspapers classified section that is published online. You may not see prices but it'll give you the basics.

School
3. Finding a school for a 5 year old won't be difficult but it depends on your requirements and the area you chose to live in. This can be done once you get on the island.

jamaica2nd,
how do you know they are "always looking for massage therapists in the resort areas" ?? Let me respond to the poster directly from AK. If you are a US Citizen, you are not going to "get a job" in Jamaica. The Ministry of Labor will not give you a work permit when the unemployment rate in this developing nation is sky high. And as far as the advice about your 5 year old, attending so called poublic school in Jamaica is not even to be considered. That means you need a private school. Do you have the funds for that? You people need to take a vacation and explore before you do this.

Gardis... The original poster can get citizenship if he/she chose that route, via decent, so it is not so "off limits". However, I do agree with you 100%... many, many, many trips and extended trips are needed before maaking any kind of decision to make the move to Jamaica.
