Building a tiny house in Jamaica

I was wondering if anyone has experience with purchasing land and buying a pre-built wood "tiny house"? I could like to live in the country (mountain area) with nearby waterfalls and where I could grow my own food. Also, what is the process like to stay permanently and buy land? One more thing, how difficult is it to bring your dog with you? Thank you!

Where are you from and do you have any ties to Jamaica?

I suggest you check out the PICA website which will tell you all you need to know about immigration and citizenship.

You may buy land as a foreign national. You won’t get a local loan so have cash or financial matters settled before you look for land.

It would be cheaper and easier for you build a concrete block home. Importing a home like you described would be quite costly.

Have you ever been to Jamaica?

You can bring your dog.. it’s a long process including 8 weeks quarantine and a numerous tests before it would leave your home country. U.K. might be an exception, but you would need to ask the Minister of Agriculture the process.

When you say country you mean the possibly of no running water or electric, no cable or WiFi and spotty cell service.

You need to come and spend 90 days living like a local.

How would you support yourself bedside your wouldn’t be able to work here without a permit and getting a work permit is a process and you more than likely won’t get one. You could open a business, but as a foreigner it would be a process.

You need have decent money to live a comfortable life here. It’s roughly twice as expensive as the states.

Tell us a bit more about yourself so we can help you out
