The living overseas forum is a place for people contemplating an overseas move, but still deciding if they'll make the leap and where in the world to go. If you are interested in advice about what it's like to live in certain countries, please post on those countries' forums as you will get much better advice that way. I currently live in the San Diego area with my wife and three sons and, although we like our current situation in the San Diego East County area, we are considering other areas to live outside of the US that may be more conducive.
I am an executive for a large mechanical HVACR and Plumbing contractor and have been in the industry for over 30 years.
We are considering the best areas to relocate which are the most affordable, enjoyable and have a low crime rate.

Hello!
Over the past five years I started traveling to Europe, and have fallen in love with most of the places I have visited. I have now spent time in thirteen different countries, and have found more than a couple I would like to live in, for at least a few years. I have traveled to Greece several times, and love the people I have met there. I could easily move to Greece. I have tried studying the Greek language which has been a struggle for me, but Greece still remains on my short list. I recently returned from Italy, which I loved! I was in Florence, and Rome, but would definitely want to live out away from the larger cities. I felt I was able to pick up a little Italian for the short time I was there. I have added Italy to my list.
I would be making this move alone, which can be very scary. I have an adventurous soul, but would hope to find a connection with 'soon-to-be' friends, to experience the challenges. I love the history of Europe. I enjoy the lifestyle, and attitudes, of Europeans

I'm a retired, divorced man, 70 years old and am considering a move to either Belize or Mexico. I may just start with an investment property that I can use for winter living, then renting out the rest of the year.. I have traveled to Mexico for many years , mostly in Cancun. I have been to Belize twice. I am looking at property along the Mayan Riveria between Cancun to Akumal, as will as the possibility of the same plan in Belize as an alternative. The areas of interest in Belize are Ambergris Caye and Placencia. Corozal is a possibility as well, but lower on the list. This social networking is new to me, and I'm still not sure how it works yet. I tried this once before, and after signing up, didn't know how to access it again. So,,, we'll see what happens this time.

Hi Malewife, you might consider Costa Rica. Belize is nice and I’ve visited but unless in a very tourist area being openly gay didn’t appear to be readily acceptable nor is there a gay area. Plus side all their food is organic and if you love reggae music you’ll be in heaven. Costa Rica rid of their Army long ago and has two gay areas in San Jose the Capitol & the beach town of Quepos. Currently CR just added new incentives to entice new expats! Plus one year (into your 7 year wait for residency) it is mandatory to join the Caja public health system. I’m hearing quotes of $50pp to $50/couple monthly! The higher up you go in elevation the cooler it is for living. Lots more more for you to discover should you decide too. Bare in mind it is a Catholic country so discretion is common sense. CR has several micro climates to fit most needs. Also search on YouTube : gay Costa Rica travel. You’ll stumble onto Michael and his former partner who have made over 500 videos since 2005 for travel and living in CR. Best of luck ??!

You might want to take a look at Panama. Why? Close to the US by plane. You could even travel by land if you are adventurous enough. Low cost of living compared to the States and many other countries. Great program for retirees, which provides discounts on many services, including airline tickets. English spoken in the larger cities, by some of the locals. Beautiful scenery and many different climates, Some of the best deep sea fishing in the world. Christian churches are well established in even most rural areas, but certainly in the larger towns. Cannot say how many of them conduct services in English. The culture, for the most part, is still family oriented and conservative leaning. Hope this helps!

I am hoping to move to warmer climate for my retirement. I am considering Belize or Grenada at the moment. I prefer an English speaking country that is gay friendly. I will be looking at the healthcare also as I am a diabetic and of course cost will be important. I am not sure my partner will be moving with me.

Trying to live a dream....that may never become a reality! in the last quarter of my life but healthy and wanting to see as much of the world as possible. Very curious about culture, not crazy about cities, prefer beautiful landscapes, quiet villages with friendly people, and architecture.

As a FR/US citizen, and needing a reboot, considering residency and tax repercussions with an expat/repat situation in FR or EU. Not quite retired and looking at options to make my move in 2023.

We will FINALLY gain Italian Citizenship hopefully by this time next year, (I'll believe it when I see it), huge process. Then, we will travel the county to every region before purchasing, settling down. Loved Sorrento, but pricey. Santa Margarita was amazing.

I'm very interested in exchanging ideas about places that might be a good fit for a senior, female, American to retire. I plan on attaining EU citizenship by the end of the year!
