i have to tell you i am blown away by the single women living in panama. it seems to me life would be very difficult in a new country with no support group, not to mention scary. i guess i am a scardy cat after all. i am a retired AF medic in the process of divorce and desperatly need to get a life. i have been to Panama mon one of the expat tours and have longed to move there. i have made up my mind that in jan.(new year resolution and final divorce) i am moving there. got passport, etc. and hope to have house sold by then, panama city is too hot, crowded, but i need the infastructure and be near the hospital. loved boquett, but no infastructure, beach to touristy. no (subdivisions for me...must be able to live and let live.
this forum has given me the courage to "do it". who is a good honest company to help me with all the tedious paperwork(not good with that) and get me on my feet etc once i am there? sopping the net for expat companies just doesnt seem smart..advise please.
i will be bringing me and my 4 babies(cats) very few possions, and not sure about my 2000 slk230 benz

First I must warn you that I am dead stuck on Boquete. I have only been to Panama City, David, Vulconito and Boquete. Maybe because we bought a house there, so I am a little/big biased. I don't know about the lack of infastructure in B. you speak of but there are plenty of nice towns in the mountains. I would think that being single is not being alone, and you can make friends very fast. My wife and I see an American in a store, exchange glanses, and before you know it we have new friends. We have new friends that we e-mail and telephone now that we met many months ago. It is totally different from the States. Your cats can be a problem. We are bringing 2 dogs and it is costing $600 each. If we don't time our dog's rabies shots, with our arrival in Panama, they will have to stay in quarantine. There are problems but nothing you can't handle.
I don't like the expat tours that are sold for Panama. There is nothing that you can not learn on your own for free, or witrh the help of others.
We do have a young Panamanian man (about 30) that has a business helping Americans. He has lived in Fort Lauderdale Fl for some time so his English is better then most. We met him a couple of years ago, and use him for our new house. He arrainged to tint all of our house windows, install a burglar alarm, build a small stone wall in our front yard, and many other projects. He does not do this work himself, but subs out the work. He has the key to our house and makes checks on the builder as we have a few things that needed to be re-worked. I guess you could say we trust him alot. He just seems like a hard-working kid to us.
I also am not too keen on useing the people I see on the internet and in "chat rooms." I was a cop for 30 years and God knows there are enough crooks in the US, let alone Central America.
Well I hope I did not scare you, but I think that you can very well make it in the big "P" Glad to answer any questions.

Regards,
Joslin
