Beach lodging-Chiriqui

We will be arriving in Panama the first week of January and renting a home in Volcan. We want to take the kids on a few side trips during Jan & Feb before they start school. Looking for recommendations on beach towns and lodging and especially tips on avoiding gringo pricing. Outside of Chiriqui province also. We drove all over Panama in '05 & '06 but a lot has changed since then!
