I will be in Porto in August staying at an Airbnb, looking for an apartment to rent by September 1. Does anyone have recommendations for finding an apartment?

You should line up a few real estate agents to go out with. Let them know what your requirements are and show them a few properties online (you can use idealista.pt, remax, or something similar) so they know what you want. Also, try to narrow down the neighborhoods.

Then have them show you some listings and make sure you won't be wasting your time when you arrive.

There is no MLS here so you need multiple agents. Some agents will only have one or two properties to show but those might be what you want. Also, agents get paid by the owner, not by the renter.
