Opening bank account

Trying to move to Thailand on retirement visa. Learn it's required to have funds on deposit in thai bank to get visa. Came to Bangkok on TR visa and tried to open account, but told that I can only open account on O or Ret visa, not TR. But both of those require history of cash on deposit in Thailand. Seems like a Catch 22. Can't get visa without bank account, can't open bank account without visa
