Housing permit to put in a window?

Post New Topic

We are planning to install a 1 x 1.5 meter window in our house in Canelones, just outside of Montevideo. The opening for the window has to be cut out of the cement/stucco wall that has no windows throughout its length.

Does anyone know if I need a permit from Intendencia to do this? I have some people who are willing to do all the work for the installation, but can I have them do it without permit?
Thankyou

This is a tricky one. Officially you will need all sort of paperwork, and BPS, but most of the people dont get any permit and just carry on with the change. Why dont you go to the intendencia and ask?

BPS is the responsibility of the owner and penalty can be severe. They tend to catch you when you go to sell or if the work can be seen from the street. For interior repairs I don’t worry about it too much but a structural change is another story.

Since every gardener seems to be a master craftsman,, licensed contractor here (not hardly!). I would be more worried about the 1.5 meter wide opening in the masonry wall. What kind of lintel will they use? or does your house have a continuous bond beam at the top of the walls as many seem to?

That was the sort of clarifying information I was hoping for. I will visit Intendencia and BPS...
