We asked foreigners in California what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In California, a typical rental home typically includes kitchen appliances such as a refrigerator, range, and dishwasher. Additional appliances often included are a clothes washer and dryer, and sometimes even items such as a microwave or a garbage disposal. Some homes may include air conditioning, central heating and a water heater as well," remarked one expat living in California.
