Summary: A newcomer to Maine should begin their search by researching the different towns and cities in the state. They should consider factors such as cost of living, job opportunities, and the types of amenities available in the area. Once they have narrowed down their search, they should contact a local real estate agent to help them find the perfect home. Homes in Maine typically include amenities such as hardwood floors, fireplaces, and large windows to take advantage of the natural light. Many homes also have decks or porches to enjoy the outdoors. Many homes also have access to outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and skiing.

What do I need to know when buying property in Maine?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Maine, they said:

"Buying property in Maine is a great investment, but it’s important to do your research first. Make sure that you look into the area you are interested in, looking into the property’s zoning ordinances and any other legal restrictions that may come with the property. It’s important to factor in a variety of costs such as property taxes, insurance, and repair costs. Additionally, make sure to shop around for prices, as prices may vary significantly. Lastly, contact a real estate agent or lawyer to help you through the process and ensure your investment is sound," explained one person living in Maine.
