What do I need to know before moving to Choiseul?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Choiseul, they said:

"Choiseul, is a small, rural community known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty. Before moving there, expats should be aware that the primary language spoken is English, but many locals also speak a French-based Creole language known as Patois. The cost of living in Choiseul is relatively low compared to other parts of Saint Lucia, but it's still higher than in many other countries. Expats should also be aware that the healthcare facilities in Choiseul are basic, and serious medical conditions may require travel to a larger city or even overseas. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture and fishing, with a growing emphasis on tourism. Expats looking for work may find opportunities in these sectors, as well as in teaching or healthcare. Choiseul is known for its arts and crafts, particularly pottery and basket weaving. The community is also home to several festivals throughout the year, which celebrate the local culture and history. The climate in Choiseul is tropical, with a wet season from June to November and a dry season from December to May. Expats should be prepared for high temperatures and humidity year-round, as well as the possibility of hurricanes during the wet season. Public transportation in Choiseul is limited, so expats may want to consider purchasing a car for getting around. However, driving in Saint Lucia can be challenging due to the hilly terrain and sometimes poor road conditions. Finally, while Saint Lucia is generally safe, expats should still take standard precautions to protect themselves and their property. This includes locking doors and windows, not displaying valuable possessions, and being aware of their surroundings, especially at night," explained one expat living in Choiseul, Saint Lucia.
