What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Southport?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Southport about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to register with a local GP (General Practitioner) as soon as you move to Southport. They will be able to provide you with all the necessary information about maternity services in the area. Secondly, familiarize yourself with the UK's National Health Service (NHS) system. The NHS provides free healthcare, including prenatal and postnatal care, to all UK residents. Thirdly, consider attending antenatal classes. These are often provided free of charge by the NHS and can be a great way to meet other expectant parents in your area. Fourthly, research local hospitals and birthing centres to decide where you would like to give birth. Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is the main hospital in the area and has a maternity unit. Fifthly, ensure you understand your rights regarding maternity leave. In the UK, you may be entitled to up to 52 weeks of maternity leave. Lastly, make sure you have all the necessary documents for registering the birth. In the UK, you must register the birth within 42 days. This can usually be done at your local register office. Remember, it's okay to ask for help and advice. There are many resources available for expectant parents in the UK, from NHS helplines to local parenting groups," remarked another expat in Southport, England.
