What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Yas Island?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Yas Island about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to understand that healthcare in the UAE is of a high standard, so you can expect good prenatal and postnatal care. However, it's advisable to have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity costs, as these can be high. Secondly, you should familiarize yourself with the local customs and laws. For example, in the UAE, it's illegal to have a baby out of wedlock. Therefore, ensure that your marital status is legally recognized in the UAE. Thirdly, it's recommended to start planning early. This includes choosing a hospital or birthing center, finding a trusted obstetrician, and understanding the process of registering the birth and getting a passport for your baby. Fourthly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help navigate any language barriers or cultural differences you may encounter. Fifthly, take advantage of the expat community. There are many online forums and social groups where you can connect with other expat parents who can share their experiences and provide advice. Lastly, remember to take care of your mental health. Living abroad can be stressful, and adding a pregnancy into the mix can make it even more so. Don't hesitate to seek help if you're feeling overwhelmed or anxious," explained one expat living in Yas Island, the UAE.
