What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Southampton?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Southampton about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Bermuda. The island has excellent healthcare facilities, but it's crucial to understand how the system works and what is covered by insurance. Secondly, consider hiring a local doula or midwife who can guide you through the process of having a baby in Bermuda. They can provide valuable advice and support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Thirdly, make sure to register the birth of your baby with both the local authorities in Bermuda and your home country's embassy or consulate. This will ensure your child's citizenship rights are protected. Fourthly, connect with other expat parents in Bermuda. They can provide practical advice, emotional support, and help you navigate the challenges of raising a child in a foreign country. Fifthly, be prepared for the cost. Bermuda is one of the most expensive places in the world to live, and this extends to healthcare and child-rearing costs. Lastly, embrace the local culture and community. Bermudians are known for their friendliness and hospitality, and integrating into the local community can enrich your family's experience living in Bermuda," explained one expat living in Southampton, Bermuda.
