What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Guilin?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Guilin about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. First and foremost, plan ahead and research prenatal care facilities and birth options in the Guilin area. Make sure to bring your passport, visa, and any other required documents with you to the appointments. 2. Connect with other expat parents in the area either through social media, meet-up groups or by asking your local expat network for referrals. They can be a wealth of information and provide invaluable guidance and support. 3. Be sure to find a qualified English-speaking doctor and qualified nurses when possible to help you during delivery. 4. Consider hiring a professional translator in Guilin if you do not speak Mandarin Chinese. This can help to facilitate communication with medical staff. 5. Fully understand the medical expenses you may incur for pre- and post-natal care, labor and delivery, as well as any complications that may arise. 6. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the birth and postnatal procedures in China, as they can vary greatly from Western expectations. 7. Finally, pay attention to the local cultural norms around childbirth and parenting to ensure the best possible experience for you and your baby," said another expat in Guilin, China, China.
