"Macao is generally considered a very safe place, with low levels of crime. Street crime is relatively rare and violent crimes are even less common. While there have been instances of pickpocketing and mugging in Macao, these tend to be isolated incidents. Most often, petty crimes such as shoplifting and vandalism are the most common type of crime found in Macao," wrote one member in Macao, China.
Is there a lot of diversity? Are people in Macao accepting of differences?
"Macao is home to a diverse population of people from different backgrounds, including Portuguese, Chinese, South Asian and Filipino. People in Macao are generally very accepting of differences and generally live in harmony, regardless of their cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Macao has very low levels of discrimination and locals strive to maintain the city's harmony and inclusivity," said one expat in Macao, China.

"Most teachers are very good, kind and professional. There are sports clubs and some extra-curricular activities for kids. Rent for a nice 1 bedroom apartment can range in price from $600 to $1500 USD per month and a nice 2 bedroom apartment can cost around $1200 to $2500 USD per month. Eating dinner at a moderately priced restaurant should cost around $20-$50 USD per person," wrote one expat living in Macao.
What are the visa & residency requirements in Macao?
"To obtain a visa to enter Macao, applicants need to provide a valid passport, completed application form, passport photo, proof of travel insurance, passport-type photos, and proof of financial resources. Proof of hotel reservation made in Macao and an invitation letter from an organization or an individual in Macao might also be required. For certain visa categories, additional documents might be needed. After submitting all required documents, the visa may be granted once the application is approved. In order to apply for residency in Macao, one has to submit certain documents to the Immigration Service of Macao. First, the individual needs to submit a valid passport and other related documents, such as a marriage certificate or documents proving family relations. The applicant may also have to submit proof of financial resources and proof of residency.
