What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Zlin?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Zlin about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in the Czech Republic. The country has a high standard of healthcare, and maternity and postnatal care are generally of a good quality. You should register with a local doctor or gynecologist as soon as you find out you're pregnant. They will guide you through the process and refer you to a hospital when the time comes. In Zlin, the main hospital is the Tomas Bata Regional Hospital, which has a maternity ward. It's advisable to visit the hospital beforehand to familiarize yourself with the facilities and procedures. Ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. If you're working in the Czech Republic, you will be covered by the state healthcare system, but if not, you'll need to arrange private health insurance. Consider hiring a doula or midwife who speaks your language to assist you during labor and delivery. They can provide emotional support and help communicate your wishes to the medical staff. It's also a good idea to attend prenatal classes, where you can learn about the birthing process and meet other expectant parents. Some classes may be offered in English or other languages. Remember to register the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate to ensure your child's citizenship rights. This should be done as soon as possible after the birth. Lastly, take advantage of the support networks available to you. There are many expat groups and online forums where you can connect with other parents and share experiences and advice," said a member in Zlin, Czechia.
