What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Kuwait City?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Kuwait City about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. Research and choose a reputable hospital or clinic: Before giving birth in Kuwait City, it is essential to research and select a reputable hospital or clinic that offers maternity services. You can ask for recommendations from fellow expats, colleagues, or friends who have had their babies in Kuwait. 2. Familiarize yourself with the local healthcare system: The healthcare system in Kuwait is of high quality, but it may differ from what you are used to in your home country. Familiarize yourself with the local healthcare practices, facilities, and professionals to ensure a smooth experience. 3. Obtain appropriate health insurance: Make sure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care and childbirth. Some employers provide insurance for their employees, but it may not cover all the costs associated with having a baby. It is essential to review your policy and make any necessary adjustments. 4. Attend prenatal classes: Prenatal classes can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. They can also be an excellent opportunity to meet other expectant parents and build a support network in Kuwait City. 5. Hire a doula or birth coach: If you feel more comfortable having additional support during your pregnancy and childbirth, consider hiring a doula or birth coach. They can provide emotional and physical support, as well as help you navigate the local healthcare system. 6. Register the birth: After your baby is born, you will need to register the birth with the local authorities. This process may vary depending on your nationality, so it is essential to research the requirements and gather the necessary documents beforehand. 7. Obtain necessary vaccinations: Ensure that your baby receives all the necessary vaccinations according to the Kuwaiti vaccination schedule. Consult with your pediatrician to ensure your child is up-to-date on all required immunizations. 8. Join expat parenting groups: Connecting with other expat parents in Kuwait City can provide valuable support and advice. Look for local parenting groups, online forums, or social media groups to connect with others in a similar situation. 9. Be prepared for cultural differences: Having a baby in a foreign country can be challenging due to cultural differences. Be open to learning about and adapting to local customs and traditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. 10. Seek emotional support: Having a baby away from your home country can be an emotional experience. Reach out to friends, family, or professional counselors if you need emotional support during this time," commented one expat who made the move to Kuwait City, Kuwait.

"I would recommend my favorite books, because there are not prenatal classes for first time parents. I would recommend delivering at Royale Hayat because they are the most natural-birth-friendly," remarked another expat in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
