What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Lantau Island?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Lantau Island about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Hong Kong. Public healthcare is of a high standard and is affordable, but it can be crowded and may not offer the same level of comfort and privacy as private healthcare. If you prefer private healthcare, make sure you have a comprehensive health insurance plan that covers maternity costs. You should also research and choose a hospital or maternity clinic in advance. There are several reputable hospitals on Lantau Island and in nearby Hong Kong Island. Consider hiring a doula or midwife for additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide valuable advice and assistance, especially if you're unfamiliar with the local healthcare system. Enroll in prenatal classes. These can be a great way to prepare for childbirth and to meet other expectant parents in Lantau Island. Make sure to register the birth of your baby with the local authorities. This is necessary to obtain a birth certificate and passport for your child. If you're not fluent in Cantonese, look for healthcare providers who speak your language. Communication is crucial during pregnancy and childbirth. Finally, take advantage of the support networks available to you. There are several expat groups and online forums where you can connect with other parents in Lantau Island and Hong Kong," commented one expat who made the move to Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
