What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Smith's?

Answer this Question

We asked people in Smith's if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"In Smith's, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions. Dress modestly and appropriately, especially when visiting religious sites. Bermudians value politeness and good manners, so always say "please" and "thank you". Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics and religion unless you are very familiar with the person you are talking to. It's also considered rude to interrupt or speak loudly in public places. Bermudians are proud of their island and its natural beauty, so littering or damaging the environment in any way is a serious faux pas. It's also important to remember that Bermudians drive on the left side of the road, so be careful when crossing streets or driving. Finally, while Bermudians are generally friendly and welcoming, they also value their privacy. Avoid taking photos of people without their permission or intruding on private property," remarked another expat in Smith's, Bermuda.
