"Expats in Kalba often find the language barrier to be a significant challenge, as Arabic is the official language and not everyone may speak English. The strict adherence to Islamic customs and traditions can also be difficult for expats to navigate, especially for those unfamiliar with the religion. This includes dress codes, dietary restrictions, and prayer times which can disrupt the normal flow of a workday. The extreme heat and harsh climate can also be a challenge for those not accustomed to such conditions. Additionally, the slower pace of life and the concept of 'Arab time', where punctuality is not always prioritized, can be frustrating for expats used to more time-conscious cultures. Lastly, the restrictions on alcohol and nightlife, as well as the segregation of genders in some social situations, can be a significant adjustment for expats from more liberal cultures," wrote a member who made the move to Kalba, the UAE.
