What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Jubail. They wrote...
"Expats in Jubail often find the strict adherence to Islamic customs and laws challenging, especially those related to dress codes and gender segregation. The language barrier can also be a significant challenge, as Arabic is the primary language spoken and not everyone may speak English. The extreme heat during summer months can be difficult to adjust to, particularly for those from cooler climates. The restrictions on alcohol and certain forms of entertainment, such as cinemas and music concerts, can also be a culture shock for many expats. Additionally, the societal norms and expectations, particularly around gender roles and interactions, can be difficult for expats to navigate and understand," remarked another expat who made the move to Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
