Culture refers to the common qualities of a group, such as a country or community. It includes forms of communication, traits and norms, which help constitute a significant portion of its environment. It also includes the art, music, foods and more.

Expats are exposed to all of these elements of culture when they move from one country to another, and understanding the culture of a host country can significantly improve the prospects of successful cultural adjustment and minimize the scope and impact of culture shock.
