What should I pack when moving to Flores?
We asked people living in Flores to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded...
"When moving to Flores, it's important to pack lightweight and breathable clothing due to the tropical climate. Include items like shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, but also pack a few long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect against mosquitoes. A lightweight rain jacket or umbrella is also essential as sudden rain showers are common. Don't forget to pack a good pair of walking shoes for exploring the city and surrounding areas. A hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen are also necessary to protect against the strong sun. Pack your toiletries, but remember that most items can be purchased locally. However, if you have specific brands you prefer, it might be a good idea to bring them along. Bring any prescription medications you need, along with a copy of your prescription. It's also a good idea to pack a basic first aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and over-the-counter pain relievers. Don't forget your electronics, like your phone, laptop, and camera, along with the necessary chargers and adapters. Guatemala uses Type A and Type B plugs, so make sure you have the right adapters. Pack important documents, such as your passport, driver's license, and any necessary visas or permits. It's also a good idea to have photocopies of these documents in case they get lost. Lastly, consider packing a Spanish-English dictionary or phrasebook, as English is not widely spoken in Flores," explained one expat living in Flores, Guatemala.
