Renting versus Buying real estate

I´m curious how ex-pats in Colombia feel about buying versus renting.
I have always rented because it seems to make economic sense and because it is easier for me to move if I wind up not liking the neighbors or the neighborhood. It also leaves my capital available for other investments that have a stronger return on investment than real estate. What are the advantages for buying?
