Fiador in Pereira/Armenia?

I read somewhere that apartment rentals are possible and easier without fiadors in Pereira (than Medellin).

Does this mean apartments in Pereira are more willing to accept 6 months in advance in lieu of 1 or more fiadors or does it mean just a month's security deposit would be accepted, for example?

Here's the thing: We're planning to arrive within the next few months but have neither a fiador nor 6 months rent. Does this mean we'd be unwise to come to Colombia?

I'm curious about this with the same questions for Armenia.
