Can I use my Bancolombia ATM/debit card for a purchase in USA?

So I have had my Bancolombia account for almost 2 years, from time to time I visit family back in LA California, can I use my Bancolombia account debit card for lets say a store purchase in the mall here in California or lets say at an ATM to withdrawal some cash?

Has anyone done this? Your experience please.

I get nervous with the idea because should it get denied I probably would not be able to resolve it until I return to my Bancolombia branch in Medellin.
