Advice on Panama City area

Hello all, I need a little of your expert assistance

I am young professional considering a position in Panama. I would be working out of the Colon Free Trade Zone. However, I would like to live in or near Panama City to be closer to the "action" - activities, restaurants, networking, etc. I am assuming that if I live on the north end of Panama City, this will make for a reasonable daily commute to the Colon Free Trade Zone. Is this a reasonable assumption? And if so, what are some neighborhoods that people recommend? Of course safety and access to basic needs are a priority.

Also, I have read a lot about the mountainous areas being much cooler. This is attractive to me, since I also have a dog and neither one of us are huge fans of the humidity. Are any of these hilly regions close to Panama City? Or am I asking too much?

All advice welcome - thanks!
