Is the Panama City tap water potable?

Retired water quality lab director and now not-at-all retired water treatment consultant and products retailer (online only) looking at Panama -- perhaps Panama Pacifico -- as a possible combo biz and second home (eventual expat) spot.

Have heard mixed reviews on Panama City water. Some say drinkable right out of the tap, some say trust bottled water only. I don't recommend drinking or cooking with straight chlorinated tap water even in the States, but am curious if the tap water in at least PC is adequately clarified, chlorinated (disinfected), "safe.", to make my drinking water filter product line marketable down there. Most of what I carry presumes safe, potable, chlorinated water on tap.

For that matter, any feedback on the quality of tap water in other expat communities would be likewise appreciated. I've heard positives about the drinkability of tap water in Coronado, David, Boquete and almost unanimous negative reports about drinking the water in Bocas.

Wife and I are looking at a scouting/vacation trip in Jan. or Feb. of '14. Any guidance and direction would be very much appreciated. With thanks in advance.
