We are considering retiring to Panama and Bocas del Toro is one place that looks most promising.
We are just looking for a rough guess to build a modist home on one of the smaller islands. Maybe something 30-45 minute boat ride from Bocas Town.
We know that transportation is a big factor in the pricing. Has anyone got any ideas?
Our main reason for wanting to build is we want to be a bit remote and we want two non-standard features. A large shower with multiple shower heads and a large glass wall that can be opened to bring the outside in but still let us close the house up when needed. We alwo want a large porch covered by the roof but we have seen existing buildings with this type of thing although few.
The rest of the house would be rather open and basic. Thinking concrete or cinderblock or what ever is the normal for durable construction. Cinderblock seems like a reasonable material. And stone or tile floor.
Is $150 per sq ft reasonable? Is it too high? Is it near the top end or way too low?
We are lookng for 1,000-1,200 sq ft plus the porch.
Any guidance would be appreciated. If you know a builder or are a builder, that sort of expert input would be most valuable.
THANKS!
