I am in the process of submitting my initial paperwork for a residency VISA and I am doing this from the states and without a trip to Portugal, so I have run into a few snags but I am working through them one by one. The biggest hurdle how is this: Has anyone ran into the challenge of finding a reference when they were submittting the initial paperwork for a residency VISA? One of the requirements on the list I received from the SF Consulate was this:
REFERENCE IN PORTUGAL, PREFERABLY THOSE WHO WOULD STAND AS GURANTORS
We only need one reference who can be your lawyer, power of attorney, land lord, Dean of Admissions etc. who are Nationals of the European Community or hold Permanent Residence in Portugal. Have them indicate their name, address, phone number, citizenship – Include Copy of National ID or Residence.
I did email them for some clarification and they responded with:
Your reference has to be either an EU citizen or foreigner possessing residence permit. They can be a friend, your attorney, your land lord, your real estate agent, anyone who is willing to be your reference and available to be called on by our immigration agents in Portugal as part of the verification process of your application and support documents.
Any thoughts, suggestions on how to get past this or ideas on how to get one?
