As an expat or digital nomad, embracing the winter season in Serbia can be an exhilarating experience, especially if you're a fan of skiing. Serbia's mountainous terrain offers a variety of ski resorts that cater to all levels of skiers and snowboarders. From the well-known peaks of Kopaonik to the hidden gems scattered across the country, there's a slope for everyone. Here are the 7-10 best ski areas in Serbia that you should consider visiting during your stay.

Kopaonik

Ability Level: All ability levels.
Location: Central Serbia
Family Friendly: Yes

Kopaonik is Serbia's most popular ski resort, often referred to as the "Mountain of the Sun" due to its large number of sunny days. With over 55km of ski runs and 24 ski lifts, it caters to beginners, intermediates, and experts alike. The resort is also equipped with snow cannons to ensure good skiing conditions throughout the season. For families, Kopaonik offers ski schools, kindergartens, and entertainment programs.

We Recommend: After a day on the slopes, visit 'JAT' Apre Ski Bar for a warm and lively atmosphere. It's a great spot to enjoy a hot drink and share stories with fellow skiers.

Stara Planina

Ability Level: Beginner and intermediate.
Location: Eastern Serbia
Family Friendly: Yes

Stara Planina, also known as the Balkan Mountains, is a growing ski destination that offers a more tranquil and untouched skiing experience. The resort has a modern gondola and several lifts, with runs primarily suited for beginners and intermediate skiers. It's also a great place for cross-country skiing. Families will appreciate the natural beauty and the less crowded slopes.

We Recommend: The cozy 'Babin Zub' hotel restaurant offers traditional Serbian cuisine with a modern twist, perfect for a hearty meal after skiing.

Zlatibor

Ability Level: Beginner and intermediate.
Location: Western Serbia
Family Friendly: Yes

Zlatibor is a well-known mountain resort area that, while more famous for its summer offerings, also provides enjoyable winter activities, including skiing. The ski area, Tornik, features a six-seater lift and several runs. Zlatibor is particularly family-friendly, with plenty of other winter activities available such as sledding and ice skating.

We Recommend: 'Koliba' restaurant is a favorite among locals and visitors, offering a rustic ambiance and a selection of grilled meats and local specialties.

Divcibare

Besna Kobila is a lesser-known ski resort, but it offers some of the most challenging terrains in Serbia, making it a hidden gem for more experienced skiers.
