Mutiara International Grammer School

Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian, with UK curiculum

4-16 years

drive/walk/bus

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Not good for international standard in KL, but ok compared to local schools. No swimming pool, shared sports field, a few labs, small library, little shaded areas

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Up to child to get on with it. No special needs unit, no extra support - just follow text books

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

In senior school nothing - junior pupils invited to see assemblies

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

School had removed a blog from parents outlining their issues so parents are now looking at ways of showing how they feel. By all means look at the school, but look very carefully at what the school does, and listen carefully to those who have actually lived the experience.

From my perspective having been to a number of different international schools, Mutiara International grammer school is not in the same league - its resources are outdated and it is not child-centred at all. it is easy to criticize schools I know, but in the case of this school it is more than justified. All the best teachers leave very quickly, and that says it all. At the beginning of September 2009 three of the best teachers did not return - they may be accused on unprofessionalism, but knowing what they did it is most likely that they had not had their contract renewed so they had no choice, or had to leave since the payment and working conditions were so poor. Their leaving says it all.

The school is NOT international in terms of what international schools provide - they con expats from a variety of countries, take the money, and don't provide many of the basics.
