What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?

Six months out visit the town have a realtor show you around and see some properties. Learn as much as you can about the various neighborhoods before making a selection.

Used a realtor graduate from my university.

Are your housing costs higher or lower than they were in your home country? What is the average cost of housing there?

Lower. About the same as in Texas, based on one's needs.
