An Expat Talks about Moving to Sheffield, UK
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
Sheffield
Name three things that you wish you had brought and three you wish you had left at home.
I should have brought stock cubes, because the ones in England lack flavour. Having relocated from S.E. Asia, I wish I had brought hand woven cloths and sachet spice mixes. I shouldn't have brought any furniture, as stuff from charity shops in England are inexpensive.

What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?
There's a lot of red tape in England and it was difficult for me to start up here. Utility bills up to three years prior, from former homes, were requested, making finding a house to rent on my own an impossibility. Lucky for me, I rented a house with my brother for the first six months and managed to find a council house that was made available for a single Mum.
What type of housing do you live in? Is this typical for most expats in your area?
I live in a terraced house that is moderately priced. There are many options that appeal to expats alike.
How did you choose your neighborhood and find your home or apartment?
My brother lives in Sheffield, so I was lucky to have him show me around.

Are your housing costs higher or lower than they were in your home country? What is the average cost of housing there?
So far, accommodation in England is more expensive than any other country I've lived in thus far. I pay 400 Pounds for my house.
